Metals and alloys are used as matrix materials and composites are defined as metal matrix (MMC)
composites and are higher mechanical than other composites (ceramic and polymer based).
Al, Mg, Ti, Cu elements and alloys are used as matrix material for MMC production. Also specifically
and alloys, high corrosion resistance, have low density, low melting temperatures, the properties of thermal
conductivity is widely used as the matrix material. [1].
6000 series alloys have good extrusion feasibility, high corrosion resistance, good weldability, hot and
moderately clean surfaces after forming the low cost of implemented processes to achieve resistance are important
characteristics. More than 80% of aluminum products produced by extrusion are alloy of 6000 series and 70% of
these alloys constitute 6063 alloy [2-6].

Pure aluminum has a specific gravity of about 2.7 g/cm3. Low specific gravity is important in the aircraft
and automobile industry and in all transportation industries [1]. The composition of commercially pure aluminium

Metal matrix composite (MMC) materials have superior physical and mechanical properties such as high
elastic modulus, strength, abrasion resistance and high temperature properties [2]. The MMC in comparison with
metallic materials with high strength/weight ratio, high temperature, creep and fatigue resistance and dimensional
stability, in comparison with PMC high strength, stiffness, operating temperature, thermal and electrical
conductivity, as well as the contribution of pollution are materials that are at a very low level. For this reason,
MMC, they are widely used in many areas such as aerospace and automotive. [3].
In this study, commercially pure aluminium has been used as a reinforcing material in particulate metal
matrix and B2O3. Pure aluminium 0,5%, 1% B2O3 particle reinforcement is made. B2O3 glassy and porous. B2O3
glassy at room temperature, has a low hygroscopic (%1). Porous compared absorb less moisture. In this study, two
cases have been studied. The resulting metal matrix composite optical microscope, SEM (scanning electron
microscope), wear and hardness (Vickers) tests were applied.
